Tremors/ Dir. Ron Underwood (1990) / US Cert 12
Repairmen Val McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are tired of their dull lives in the small desert town of Perfection, Nevada. But just as the two try to skip town, they happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned seismologist (Finn Carter) studying unnatural readings below the ground. With the help of an eccentric couple (Reba McEntire, Michael Gross), the group fights for survival against giant, worm-like monsters hungry for human flesh
The Descent/ Dir Neil Marshall (2005) / (UK) / Cert 18
The Descent is a British Horror film featuring six women who, having entered an unmapped cave system are trapped and hunted by flesh-eating subterranean zombies. A year after losing her husband and child in a grisly car accident, Sarah (Shauna Macdonald) gets lost with five fellow adventurers in the bat-infested depths of Appalachia. In this exclusively all-female lead cast there are no damsels in distress — just variations on kick-ass heroines. Filmed in the UK at Ashridge Park, Buckinghamshire the filmmakers considered it too dangerous and time-consuming to shoot in an actual cave, so the interior scenes were filmed on sets built at Pinewoods Studios London.
