Deep Focus

Deep Focus is an experimental lab for the possibilities of non-fiction narrative, in collaboration between Abandon Normal Devices, the Centre for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) and the Center for Artistic Inquiry and Reporting (CAIR).

Deep Focus is an experimental lab for emerging journalists, artists and filmmakers based in the UK to uncover new and diverse ways to shape compelling non-fiction documentaries. Participants are encouraged to interrogate the unsettling rise of misinformation, extreme online communities, conspiracies and the ominous increasing influence of online personalities.

We will be equipping a cohort of 9 practitioners with the investigative tools, instruments, tactics and strategies to question established narratives, highlight injustice and showcase overlooked stories.

Hosted at School of Digital Arts (SODA), the Lab will feature compelling workshops, guest lectures and events by experts, disrupters and creatives from the sector.

On Friday 6th December, a public screening and Q&A will be hosted at SODA. Please check back soon or sign up to our newsletter to be the first to know about upcoming details.

This lab is part of a two year curatorial partnership at the School of Digital Arts (SODA) at Manchester Metropolitan University. Find out more about the partnership and other events happening in the programme.

This programme is a collaboration between Abandon Normal Devices (AND) and Modal gallery at Manchester Metropolitan University’s School of Digital Arts (SODA). AND is supported with public funding from Arts Council England.
