Petra Szemán + David Blandy
Petra Szemán (they/them) is a moving image artist working with animation and game-like landscapes. They roam the edge-territories of worlds both real and fictional, looking for potent places to coax subjectivity outside of itself and into strange new relationships with the virtual. Turning away from thinking of the cyberspace as a radically ’other’ realm, Petra walks the line situated between dystopian and utopian frameworks, eyes set on new queer horizons.
David Blandy (he/him) is an artist examining global structures of control and networks of resistance, in areas as diverse as ecology, history and science to arenas of play, he makes videos, games, sound and ephemera, deconstructing forms to put them back together again. Sifting through multiple forms of archive, from historic texts to academic archives, archaeology and ecological theory, twitch streams and film archives, Blandy weaves poetic works that explore the complexities of the contemporary subject.
Petra Szemán + David Blandy are part of Critical Acts – an immersive gathering and a platform for surveying emerging net and digital cultures through performance lectures on Wednesday 9 October.
